SOTU: Infrastructure

A call went out last week from OFA asking what do we the people desire to hear in the SOTU.  Given I recently decided to break out on my own, I did not place much importance on the request at the time.  However, after hearing of the three GOP planned responses to the SOTU, I decided I should make my desire known.  Maybe just maybe the GOP will hear me and stop the wandering the path of obstruction. It is time for America to progress and we cannot do it as long as the GOP continues to be focused on the destruction of Obama's terms as president.  Instead of spending the last five years focused on improving infrastructure in America, they have spent time attacking every GOP think tank idea put forth by President Obama.  Enough of the crap. We, the working poor of America, don't have time or money for rich boys' games.  I don't have $1B to give to the person creating the perfect bracket.  I do have a voice to encourage progress in America that lifts us al...

Walking my talk Living my purpose

There comes a time in life when one is called to make a move beyond one's comfort zone.  When I moved to Mississippi many years ago, my friends asked if I would be safe.  They pondered how long I would last.  I told to them, Mississippi is home for me, I shall be okay.  Once I arrived home, I discovered being a Black lesbian was the least of my concerns.  Although the state had had economic improvement, trickle down economics had not reached all of the population.  I arrived to a Mississippi that still employed what amounted to modern day sharecropping.  I have watched those with money abuse via legislation the rights of those without money.  Some members of the LGBTQ community expected me to be more vocal for our issues in Mississippi but the level of poverty in the state prevented my being able to do so.  When I spoke out against poverty, the poor asked me to not stir the waters for they needed their jobs.  Yet, there comes a time ...

Moving past the assumptions

Earlier this month I launched a project on Kickstarter.  It was not funded.  I shall launch it again.  I had thought to not launch it again, allow another to tell the story. However, I had an email from someone on the 17th of January that inspired me to try again.  This person read my blog and assumed I had no work ethic.   She read a line I had written on my blog of dong no work during the holiday period.  She informed me I did not have the work ethic to produce an important documentary.  I replied to this person with a thank you. This person's assumption is one of the reasons I am doing the project.  An assumption that Black people are lazy is why there is much talk and money thrown at the issue of drop-out rates amongst Black males but little real effort to correct the matter.  Money and talk without effective implementation will not correct the matter.  My work ethic is similar to that of many single parents and some two paren...

#stopblamingwhitewomenweneedunity or let's end all oppression

I had promised myself a week off work doing nothing but playing Runescape, drinking water, eating candy canes, and the only macro muscle movement involved elimination of waste.  Well, I failed.  I popped on Twitter to wish people well, as I twisted my hair, and saw this # stopblamingwhitewomenweneedunity .  I had to read the back story to understand what the hell happened.  As I write this posting this tag is getting roughly 30 hits a half hour.  It is not popping like #RacismEndedWhen but it is moving.  Here are my thoughts. The expansion of Western civilization did come at a heavy price.  The United States has an ugly history in regards to race relations. There is a huge disparity in sentencing in the United States. Women across the board do have it hard. When females fight each other nothing good happens for a nation or species. I write now to speak to the last.  It is time for unity amongst women.  We should unify to stop oppres...

Traditions

There comes a time when a tradition no longer serves the purpose for which it was started.  This thought came to me as I sat at my mother's house.  She is cooking chitterlings.  My son and I are not big on meat and she has high blood pressure.  Really, Mom!!! I think.  There comes a time to break a cycle of useless behaviors.  The chitterlings are best left in the hog, IMHO.  My plans for the holidays are to sit and to sit .  I shall move when my body demands food but otherwise, I shall do nothing.  After the holidays, I shall move to a new phase of life.  I plan to be more active than I have been in 2013. I lost some traditions in 2013 when my elders died.  The good of their ways I shall keep but the things that are no longer viable I shall allow to be buried with them.  It is time we evolve as a species.  May 2014 be the year we leave behind those Traditions that no longer serve us.

The humans

I write very often on items that would lead one to assume I am fascinated with race, sexuality or money.  Truth, I am enthralled by the ability of humans to still be in existence.   This morning one of the first stories in my time line on Twittter was this http://m.wlox.com/#!/newsDetail/24275875.   How are we still a life form on this planet? This level of crazy didn't start today it had been on going since recorded history.  How much more crazy can we survive?

Half-baked in the South: The Usual Suspects

There are some things that seem to be rather innocuous but for some reason have become a focus  for Southern defiance.  President Obama asked for U.S. flags to be at half mast until 12/9/2013 in honor of Mandela.  However, there are those in the Southern reigion of the United States who find the request to be the assertion of some Federal overreach.  These people have responded in typical fashion.  Pickens County, SC typical.  My wonderful governor Phil Bryant of Ms, also typical.  Phil Bryant ‏ @ PhilBryantMS 20h Flags will continue to fly at half-staff tomorrow to mark Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. # TheGreatestGeneration http:// twitpic.com/dnt59q If you live outside Mississippi or the South you may not be aware of the implication of Phil Bryant's tweet but the subtle nod to the defiant hard core racist did not go unnoticed by me.   I was immediately reminded of the Confederate...
